Saving for a Rainy Day

Hi Friends,

Our combined meeting on Sunday was a great opportunity for me to learn and reflect on areas of improvement that I need to work on specifically. I hope that each one of you were able to identify a goal or two that you were inspired to reach for after listening to the remarks from Bishop Loy.

One thing that I considered was how very fortunate we are and how often we overlook the blessings we take for granted each day. We sometimes don't appreciate them until we are without them. On that list for me is a glass of water when I am thirsty. Ten years ago, I visited Damascus with my husband, and I still remember with gratitude those individuals who gave me a glass of rose water to drink.

We have had several years of drought and I have recently noticed its impact on the quality of my household drinking water. It has made me re-evaluate how prepared our family might be in case potable drinking water were unavailable due to an emergency. I have come up with several strategies that I hope will help our family...from keeping a case of bottled water in the trunk of each car, replacing our refrigerator water filter, checking and treating our two 55 gallon water barrels, looking into the cost and value of a household water purifier, and preparing to be able to disinfect and treat pool water to be useful at least for needs beyond satisfying thirst. I also have a current campaign to convince my husband that water delivered by Arrowhead is definitely a necessity. Not sure how I will fare on that last one.

Anyway, I hope to make some progress on my "water" goals before Summer starts. I would love it if you would participate in my water storage poll, and if you have any helpful hints or ideas that you are using in your family....I would so appreciate your comments.

  1. I work in the water industry. If your tap water isn't pleasing to you and you're on a public utility, please call and tell them. You pay for the water and they want to know if there are any problems. As for bottled water, I don't use it. My source for emergency water is my hot water tank and the gigantic water tank 3 doors down. Water conservation in California is just a way of life. A very precious resource that very powerful entities wrestle over.
